„Blind Spot“ describes the part of the visual field we can not see. An anatomical blemish the second eye is able to compensate. Psychologically the blind spot describes something that we can’t apprehend, because we do not want to; things we repress. The work of the French artist Laure Catugier touches more than a Blind Spot we are carrying within ourselves. It also relates to our everyday social surrounding. She reveals them and lens us a second eye. The architecture symbolizes the manifestation of such Blind spots in her work and is at the same time her tool to represent them. Laure Catugier detects in her photographic series man-made paradoxes that make us smile or that withdraw and convey a disturbing alienation between us and our self-created artificial environment. Many of her photographic works are evidence of a strict geometrical appropriation of her environment, which is then tempered by an almost childlike play; by an instinctive interpretation of human whims (or blind spots).
